The rocky origins of the now cult classic from 2009.

Directed by Karyn Kusama in 2009 starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, "Jennifer’s Body" is about a newly possessed cheerleader who turns into a murderer who specialises in killing her male classmates as her best friend attempts to put an end to it.
Following screenwriter Diablo Coby’s Oscar win for the screenplay of "Juno" this movie was set to continue her upward trajectory but with a 44 percent on rotten tomatoes it was a certifiable flop, however now it’s on the comeback and here we look at why.
It’s important to look at the narrative that surrounded the film. It was 2009 and lead Megan Fox was considered a basic cover girl and transformer star who’s there only to stand in a bikini. As well as this Coby was beginning to receive backlash with reports saying she was a precious one hit wonder. This narrative created that it was trying too hard or was simply too sexualised or not enough. However with internet culture on the rise a new consensus occurred, that 2009 was simply not ready for Jennifer’s Body. Now the film is being re-claimed by mainly ignoring any readings of the film appealing to the male fantasy and in a post #metoo society it becomes a powerful revenge fantasy instead.
